Companies are looking for new, more eco-friendly ways of dealing with waste, which is where FSG’s waste management services can come in handy. The accumulation of waste is a global problem and, if not addressed, will eventually lead to our world overflowing with waste products. The good thing is that every business can become more environmentally friendly, and FSG can help companies implement recycling practices. By adjusting your business decisions and habits regarding recycling, you can help protect the environment and sustain its resources for future generations. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle The ultimate aim of recycling is to reduce the amount of waste ending up in landfills, helping to combat pollution. Waste can be managed in several ways, such as sending plastic to plants to be re-made and reused or collecting food waste from restaurants and turning it into compost. Everyone has heard of and knows what recycling is, yet many companies still need to recycle because it seems too inconvenient to keep up the routine. While individuals may use recycling practices at home, these actions only sometimes extend to the office environment. With FSG, commercial clients can successfully implement recycling programmes and ensure legal compliance with the Waste Act. Maropeng upgrades to the Cradle of Humankind
FSG has been working at upgrading Maropeng, to make it more welcoming and better equipped to facilitate the tourism industry. The site will contain sculptures, benches, aggregate pathways, and picnic areas for use by the public, against a scenic backdrop of indigenous trees. During the past month, there has been fantastic progress at the site. The endemic plants that make up the fauna and flora have been delivered and planted. The exposed aggregate pathways have been cast and the granite stone benches have been delivered, and are being placed. The foundations that are designed to withstand over two tons of weight combined are being lain for the stone sculptures that will commemorate our ancient forefathers. About the Maropeng project The FSG team working on site have over 40 years combined experience in horticulture, landscaping, and construction. FSG is sparing nothing to give this project the best, technology previously reserved for agriculture is being used to ensure the successful growth of the plants. This site is an incredibly sensitive area and FSG had to take enormous care. An ecologist came to remove certain plant species that would be stored safely, to be replanted at the end of project. FSG was briefed by an archaeologist on what to do if they should make any important discoveries. The top layer of the soil was removed, but kept, it will be replaced at the end of the project to ensure that they keep with the natural growth of the site. Water retention agents and microbes alongside some other products are being introduced into this sensitive ecosystem to ensure the optimal establishment of vulnerable and protected species that were temporarily removed from the site prior to the earthworks and development. The rehabilitation of salvaged soil and plant species will give visitors the impression that the

4 secrets to greener grass with Lawn Care
Regular lawn care will ensure rolling lawns of luscious green grass that will beckon everyone outdoors. Well-kept lawns gives a property a manicured look, showing that it is maintained and cared for. While adequate watering is a crucial element in this endeavour, it is only one aspect of the care that is required for the grass to truly thrive. Here is a look at the other 4 secrets to ensuring a well thought maintenance plan for your turf, especially if you have a sports field. What is lawn scarification? A lawn is made up of three different layers. The luscious, green, healthy layer is at the top. The middle layer is dead and brown. It is mostly made up of roots, shoots and some inorganic elements. The final layer of the turf is the root system which is beneath the ground. This layer is responsible for absorbing water and nutrients from the soil. If the middle layer gets too thick, it can hamper the ability of the root systems to flourish, grow and absorb the water and nutrients that they need. Overcrowded thatch layers will smother the lawns roots, preventing oxygen from penetrating the soil to the detriment of the grass, while it also interferes with water drainage in the soil, acting like a sponge, trapping water. It also houses harmful organisms and insects that harbour and spread diseases, placing further strain on the health of your lawn. Scarification is one way of addressing this. Simply trim the thatch by cutting the grass quite low down to the ground when you are mowing the lawn, removing the brown layer along with the green top layer. Scarifying is recommended once a year to keep the thatch layer trim and thin. A vertical cutter or a lawnmower can be used for scarification.

A world heritage site: Maropeng project begins
Maropeng, a world heritage site located at the Cradle of Humankind attracts visitors from across the world, especially individuals who find human history fascinating. This area has been called the womb of life, because it has yielded some of the earliest human fossils, including that of the first adult Australopithecus. The area offers a diverse number of tourist activities, and the rich natural landscape is largely left untouched, making it a highly sought after destination to take in the natural, warm beauty of Africa. What is happening at Maropeng? FSG has been awarded the opportunity to do a tender based project at Maropeng, which will uplift and complement the existing natural landscape. We will be creating an area for visitors to enjoy while accentuating the fact that it as a world heritage site with stone statues. The vision includes a granite ring at the centre to serve as seating, with indigenous trees planted around the area for shade. It will all be furnished with benches, dustbins, drinking fountains and exposed artevia concrete will give simple and functional walkways, making this spot ideal for picnics and weddings. Cradling the environment while making a world heritage site A strict procedure was to be followed before the project was able to commence. An ecologist visited and evaluated the area, and we were required to hand in health and safety files before we were even allowed on site, as well as being required to take part in an induction course. The course involved a briefing on the rules and regulations of the area to which we have to adhere very strictly, respecting the fact that the area is a world heritage site. We were warned about the local snake species and had to fence off the area in which we will be working, to
